Healthy Start

Santa Maria Healthy Start, a Family Resource Center, acts as a safety net for vulnerable children and families, linking them to resources that meet their most basic needs. We work in collaboration with the Santa Maria Bonita School District (20 schools), medical and dental clinics, county agencies, community agencies, and others so that children and families in Santa Maria can access a broad range of services. Santa Maria Healthy Start Family Advocates provide case management, advocacy, and education services to promote self-sufficiency at its Resource Center. Our staff coordinates referrals for children in need of medical, dental and/or vision care, as well as coordinates referrals of families in need of basic needs, counseling, employment, housing, and other needs. The focus of the case management, advocacy, and education services at Healthy Start is to assist families facing a complex set of barriers to self-sufficiency by providing access to care, strengthening a family’s skills and resources and engaging parents in their children’s academic experiences.

Fighting Back Santa Maria Valley

It’s our Mission to partner with all members of the community to achieve resilience against substance use, reductions in violence and promote a healthy and safe environment for our youth and families.

Fighting Back’s strategy is to continue to partner with others in the community by leading our Coalition to build a Drug-Free Community. Fighting Back also provides direct services with our focus on developing resiliency through a child’s relationship with a caring adult. This purpose allows Fighting Back to fight against drugs, alcohol, gangs and all other negative influences, one kid at a time.
